I have a friend that loves this plug,
http://wordpress.org/plugins/wponlinebackup/

I've personally been using,
http://infinitewp.com/

for backups and much more, but this doesn't email you the backup (it's downloaded)

thanks for the incredibly quick answer!

the only problem with the first one you posted is it doesnt allow to restore, but otherwise seems pretty much what I was looking for

the second one seems a bit awkward to install, and is it completely free?
Yes it's free.   awkward?, maybe, if you have no experience with web design.   You have to FTP a folder of files and connect it to a DB.      If you are not working with multiple Wordpress sites, it might be overkill.   It's great utility.

This might be a solution,

They have a free version.   I can't speak from personal experience about this plugin.

so having looked deeper into your suggestions I have several issues:

wponlinebackup: doesnt allow for backup in the cloud, other than their site. Not dropbox or skydrive. That discards it

infinitewp.com: yes, its not as easy to install and manage as other plugins, in fact it isnt a plugin at all, it seems overkill, and Im not sure it allows to send the backups automatically to the cloud, like dropbox. skimming through their fórums there seem to be some pretty important problems that havent been solved, so for all those reasons and because it doesnt seem to be intuitive for me at least, Im going to skip on that one too

updraftplus.com: Ive been trying to make it work for the last few days without success, it doesnt work with dropbox, and probably it doesnt work at all, full stop

I'll appreciate new suggestions, having in mind how important is that whatever solution there is , has to work with dropbox/skydrive/google drive

thanks
I have used this for several clients:
http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-db-backup/
It sends me site backups every day. But you do need access to PHPMyAdmin if you need to restore the site.

question: does that plugin make complete backup of the site, including pictures, uploads, everything? I mean, not only the DB but everything else as well?

what are the practical limitations of only allowing to restore the backup through PHPmyadmin?

thanks
No, the backup is just of the database. Using PHPMyAdmin is a very simple way to restore the site.

Where is your site hosted? Webhosts usually have back ups of your files for you, and you can restore files to a previous date in your control panel. Or are you hosting it yourself?
It would get to be a massive amount of data if you had all the backup files emailed to you, I am not sure the emails would even get sent.

Also, don't you have all the files that you uploaded to your WP site on your own computer? And do you back that up? I use Carbonite to back up all the files on my own computer, plus I can access them from my phone and tablet and send them to myself.

doesnt work for me if it doesnt do a complete backup of the site

I dont want to depend on third persons if If Im in trouble. of course I have my files in my HDD, but in this day and age you need a lot more, fi you're serious about your business, and Im serious. what happens if I have a fire in my house (god forbids) or any other disaster? a bit surprised by your question,. really
Do you mean my question about having all of the files on your computer as well as the website? I asked that and then said all my computer files are backed up on Carbonite in case of disaster. Why is that surprising?

I didnt see the carbonite part, in fact I dont know what that is, could you elaborate a bit?

but regardless Id like to have my site both on a physical backup and on the cloud so Im still looking for a reliable and easy to use solution, thanks guys
It backs up all of the files on my tablet, smart phone and computer into the cloud where I can access the files from anywhere plus I can use it to restore all of my files should my computer crash permanently. It's not very expensive either, $60 to $100 a year for the smaller packages.
Pricing is here:
