Using Microsoft for Storage
I would like to know how to configure SAN storage using Microsoft.
I believe I would know how to configure one Windows 2008 Server as iSCSI Target and another Windows 2008 as iSCSI initiator then bring online the Virtual disk present by the target . This will make the VD look as local to the second windows 2008 server.
But if I want the same VD look as local disk to end users without visiting each workstation and run iSCSI initiator ( if there is even one on the client machine). How I would do that.
I thought about MAP drive script, but it does not sound like it will look as local drive to end users, if we check that through the disk management tool.

How do you make the provisioned .vhd disk show as local disk on the client machines (end users workstations)?

I do not see the section that talks how to make client workstations able to see the provisioned disk just like a local disk. Can you please paste it here ?

I wanted just to understand how it works in the real world. Per your explanation, I understand that :
1- you can Install iSCSI target software on one Windows 2008 server, and create a virtual Disk .vhd
2-Then you can use the iSCSI initiator from another windows 2008 server and point it to the Target, bring the vhd Online, format it, give it a drive letter..
3-For the Workstations, you can just use Login Script, to map a drive to the disk created on step2 .
Correct ?
