How to run 16 bit software on Windows 8 laptop
My HP 4525s laptop died. The operating system was Windows 7 Pro. I have 16 bit software which I ran using the free XP mode. This worked really well because applications could be run in such a way as they were just like any other application. My 16 bit application is a PIM which pops up messages on the screen. I guess this is called "integrating the 16 bit software" or something like that.
I cannot use VirtualBox or any virtual software because the virtual window gets hidden and I don't see the pop ups.
Now Windows 7 laptops are not sold anymore.
1.) What must be done to allow 16 bit applications to be "integrated" on Windows 8 as they were in Windows 7 using XP mode?
2.) If there is an "integration" tool for Windows 8, what version of Windows 8 must I have?
3.) You may have a better idea on how to handle this situation. What are your ideas? I am not a computer expert so please give me a detailed answer.
Thank you.

By the way, Windows 7 laptops are still very much for sale. I saw a number of T-model Thinkpads (Lenovo.com) that come with your choice of Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Hello Thinkpads_User :
I have never used Vmware Workstation. I have installed and configured VirtualBox. VirtualBox runs in its own window. There is no way I know of to "integrate" it into Windows .
What about Vmware Workstation? What must be done to enable it to run in an "integrated" mode like XPmode can?

So you must:
(a) Use a virtual software which you do not want to do, or
(b) Ditch the 16-bit code and move to something newer.
I would opt for option (a) myself, perhaps using VMware Workstation (I have that) as it is very flexible.
