Excel 2007 "This workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated"
A user has a workbook that has an external link. When they open it they get, "This workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated."
Had them go to DATA>EDIT LINKS. They can open the source, if they check the status is goes from unknown to OK. They then save the workbook and close it. But when they reopen it, same thing.
Even more strange it this happens from Win7 desktops with Office 2007. XP desktops are give no error.
Any ideas?

Can you kindly make a copy of one of the files, remove any data but keep the links and post the file here?
ASKER
The file opened is an and .xlsx, the file to which the .xlsx file links is an .xls.
I will check with the user about getting copies of the files.

Sorry this has taken me so long.
The issue is that the data in the file is sensitive. I tried to clear contents, but that clears formulas too as I found out.
Is there a simple way to find the linking statemetn so I can preserver it but remove the senstive data?

preserver = preserve
b. Is it a XLS or a XLSX file?
c. Is Office 2007 (on the 7 desktop) completely patched using Microsoft Update?
Thank you.
