To troubleshoot RDP issue on win 2008 server.

recently i have observed one issue ..my customer was unable to rdp the machine/vm..while it was fine..while we bot are there in same network..?

then after reboot..it has gone for me as well..tried to telnet customized port for rdp ..was not going to server..even i was unable to telnet any of the ports..to server..?

then i found windows firewall service was enabled on server..made it disabled/restarted server..then found rdp was fine.

need to understand if issue was due to firewall why earlier it was fine for me?

and please share the best practice to trouble shoot on rdp issue on win 2008 server.. ?

and is there any other alternate way to get console for win 2k3/2k8 server..if rdp is not running timebeing?

Firewalls enabled will stop you accessing the server via RDP

pls advice if firewall should be disabled on win 2k3/2k8, or if any other config we have to check  and customized to troubleshoot further on rdp issue
It's recommended to have a firewall enabled.

yes, agreed, but how can we get this configured,so that we can make sure, rdp will not  be disturbed due to that firewall only
is there any other alternate method form ms/authorized by ms , to get console if rdp is not working ?
