Cannot create disk in Hyper-V greater than 2Gb
Hi folks,
I have a curious issue which could just be more not being familiar with aspects of Hyper-V but the problem I have is I need to create a VM for a storage server with 4Tb+ of data. I can create the initial server ok, with bootable IDE based disk - but I cannot add a second disk due to two reasons:-
1. When creating the disk image file, I only get the option for .VHD files not .VHDX (think thats the right types, but you know what I mean)
2. Creating any kind of second disk fails with either a file already exists error or readonly. The file itself is created but just doesn't seem to get attached in hyper-V manager settings for the VM in question.
I also cannot find the convert to .VHDX option, so wondering if I've somehow got an older version of Hyper-V and not the newer V3 one...but have downloaded from MS again and performed in place upgrade, but still no joy.
What am I missing???
Cheers
Allan

Sorry, I meant 2Tb!
When I try and follow the Petri article, I don't get the same screen options. Screenshot attached. Is this maybe just an outdated Manager that is the issue? If so, how can I check relevent version info on both Hyper-V Core itself and Manager to make sure they are both V3 enabled?
I'm using Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit with RSAT to manage Windows 2012 Hyper-V Core Setup.

Just thinking....is it because I'm managing from a Windows 7 machine and not a Windows 8 one that is the issue here?

By jingo - success! Think this maybe a RSAT on Windows 7 issue then.
