Netgear DG834G intermittent blocks port 4125
Hi All,
I have an SBS 2003 with a Netgear DG834G with a firewall rule that allows traffic to the server. Intermittently the ipads/iphones are unable to access their email and to sort the issue I disable the service 4125 (which relates to port 4125/tcp), apply then re-enable and all is OK for a few weeks.
The latest firmware is installed.
Can anyone suggest a permanent solution.
Thank you
Mark

Hi rigo2013,
There are 2 iphones & 1 Ipad so not major amount of traffic.
No Torrent going on, but a lot of rdp from the users to another server, but do not believe this port would be affected.
I accept the timer may help are you able to suggest how this can be setup?
I will look to replace with a draytek 2820 I have spare.
I will leave this question open for a day or 2 to see if anyone has other suggestions.

Hello.
The timer was a simple purchase from a local DIY store used in many homes (the type used to trick thieves in a Home Alone style). I set it to switch off at 03:31 and on again at 03:32. This merely helped it stay free from errors but doesn't get to the root of the issue.
If you can, drop the Draytek in as they are very good and I have found quite solid.

Replacing the router seems to be the answer!
I have used a DG834G and they seem to get very unhappy with the following:
1. More than 8- 100 sessions (how many iOS do you have connecting, do some people have two devices for example)?
2. Torrent sessions (they just max out and you know there is away someone doing as such as work)
Could the spike be caused by company traffic? Company results time for example and everyone diving on the iPhone to mail each other?
I know it also sounds like an odd answer but have you considered an off timer to reboot the router at quiet times such as 03:30? Helped me when I had unsteady ADSL but it doesn't get to the core of the issue.
Long term, might be worth looking to swap the Netgear for something a little more robust. If you are looking for a router, Draytek boxes are perfect for perimeter stuff and I had an ASA behind that.
