HP DL360 G5 - Smart array batteries/capacitors have failed

Hi,

I have a DL360 G5 with 4 drives in a Raid5 configuration.

I have noticed in the ACU, the error message "Smart array p400i in embedded slot has one or more array accelerator batteries/capacitors that are failed" see attached jpg for the rest of the message.

I purchased this server second hand, so wondering if something is missing etc. Please see second jpg attached for shot of inside server.

Any thoughts would be great?

Since the error message references the card specifically, most likely there's one there. Most of these RAID controllers have a battery power cache on them to improve performance. I've had some other HP controllers in the past have similar messages and it usually means what it says, that the battery has failed. This does not keep the controller from working, but the cache either isn't working or it's not backed up since the battery has failed.

Here's a link to a manual on that server.
Batteries only have a certain life, after which they have to be replaced because they are spent. Just replace the batteries of your RAID controller and you'll be fine again.

Hi, no link?

I cannot locate the battery though? I am use to seeing these on other servers like DL380. See attached.

See screen image 2 from my original message, has a shot of inside the server.

@rindi

Perfect, I found it! Was pretty hidden.

What does it actually do? What is the benefit of having it replaced?
for RAID accelerator read "Battery Backed Writeback Cache", the battery is to keep the volatile cache valid if the power fails
Thanks
