This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer" "do you want to open this file or cancel operation?"

I am having this issue on a Windows XP Access 2003 system.
The file was working on two computers accessing it across the network for long time. Then one day the file was un openable. The person right clicked and went open file with Access.
It opens until a window a bout this file "" This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer"
"do you want to open this file or cancel operation?"
It will not go any further. I changed security settings to low in Macros.
The file is 4.36MB in size so there is information in it.
can anyone help
I attach image of access after i click Open. The side bar seems to think you can scroll down but nothing there

Are you using the run-time version of Access or the full version?

Thank you all for tips. Its full 2003 office pro. Create new database and import? How do I do that if you k ow I would be interested
All Microsoft updates up to date. I actually thought it may of been an update that damaged it. I maybe wrong. Has anyone seen this before
<The person right clicked and went open file with Access.>
?

Why is the person right-clicking the file to open it?
All MS Access files types should be registered with Windows.
So you should only have to double click them to open them.
If double-clicking does not work, then you may have to fix your file associations.

..."Unregistered" file types (extensions) may trigger the error you are getting.

Also, does this user have more than one version of Access installed?
If so then you may want to create a shortcut that opens that specific file with the appropriate version of Access.(2003, in your case...)
In the shortcut put something like this as the Target:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2003\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE"  "C:\YourFolder\YourDatabase.mdb"
(Point to the specific MSACCESS.exe file in your specific Access 2003 installed folder)
Thanks Boag,
I am not sure why this suddenly happened. It opened normally everyday with click and then this day it was like an unregonanised associated software piece. When clicked it asked what software to open with Access was on top, so she chose this.
Would there been an issue here?
I done the import on new database it took all info accross, but new file is only 1.2mb compared to  old file 4.56mb.
I do not know access at all, am i doing something wrong.
I am getting close?
Also, When i create New Database, it says its DATABASE (ACCESS 200 File Format)
Thank you Helen,
This worked exactly. It took a few attempts and it came around with all the data there, but i thought i lost a lot of stuff according to disk size of file. But the person using it says its ok,,
Thanks for help
Thank you all for your input, much appreciated.
"but i thought i lost a lot of stuff according to disk size of file"

This implies that the file is not being compacted on a regular basis.  Either you, or the "person using it" should run the "Compact & Repair" utility at least once a week.
