Weird pinging and Server 2008 2r
Hi, we have a few 2008r2 servers that on occasion we can't ping from certain PCs.
DNS on the servers we can't ping is set fine and the Firewall is off
One thing i notice is that on some of the PCs that can ping the problems servers - the return address will be IPV6.
If i reboot the problematic servers i can eventually ping again (say 10 mins) and the servers that were returning an IPv6 address will now return and IPV4 address. Plus all servers can not be pinged and all return the expected IPV4 address.
Any ideas?
Cheers

If you aren't using IPv6, uncheck it and let the servers be IPv4 and monitor the ping results.

I can't remember where but i thought I'd read somewhere the turning off IPV6 is not recommended? Plus, why is it just these servers, when we have 30 odd other W28k servers?
Appreciate the reply..

Hi,
I have experienced the same problem in the beginning. After turning off IPV6 it worked for me.
