hello experts

urgently need your help with this issue,

first of all what i have now:
2 IBM blade servers with SAS Module on the chassis.
VMware ESXi 4.1 on both blades.
IBM TS3100 SAS tape library connected to SAS module of the chassis.

I connected tape device via SCSI connection to my VM guest 2008 R2.
installed all required drivers according to vendor guides and it is ok with it.

but the problem is that i cannot take any tape backup.
i installed hp data protector 7.0 and it connected to tape library BUT it does not see the drive.
i mean software identified drive somehow improperly.
how? well i configured drive in data protector; formatted tape medium and made a simple folder backup to tape
in the first attempt backup finished but medium got the POOR state.
i rebooted library then the backup got successful; the third attempt failed again.

don't tell me about hardware failure because i recently changed the drive through vendor.

i have two solutions but i am not sure.
1- vmware does not support passing tape device to guest vm so backups will not work; so i have to install
additional physical blade to connect to tape directly.
2- somewhere i googled that tape device should be ZONEd so that it's port should listen directly ESX host
BUT the problem is how should i configure this zoning? i need detailed solution on how to zone.
i know that zoning should be done through bladecenter management interface also.

question:
what would be your comments regarding solutions 1 & 2? and how can i properly configure ZONing.

thanks
