How to troubleshoot e-mail delivery via the the POP3 connector on SBS 2011

Problem:
For all email external to the SBS server, email delivery is delayed by 30-60 minutes. In todays world, people expect e-mail to arrived within a minute or so.

Background information: I recently completed a SBS2003 to SBS2011. Since the migration, email delivery via the POP3 connector has been problematic. Email does get delivered into exchange mailboxes but it might take 30-60 minutes or so before it shows up.

Are you running any antivirus install directly on the server?

for the following reason:

I used the pop3 connector log to troubleshoot my problem. A recent migration from SBS 2003 to 2011precipitated a couple problems that I wanted to share with others.
Hi:

Glad you found an answer to your immediate problem, and happy that you shared it.

But the real solution to pop3 issues where there is an exchange server is to use SMTP mail and stop using pop3.
