I have an sbs2000 standard box. I would like to use the smarthost built into exchange except since I am not hosting my domain, the domain is x.local and emails are x.local, not the domain name let's called it hello.com. In the past, if I mixed addresses, routing got all messed up. I have a scanner inhouse that only emails scans from the printer to the inhouse email addresses. Of course, I have to use my host's smtp server and it seems like a waste of time to send out an email, let it leave the the building, and then come back...sometimes the scans do not get delivered. I was thinking of getting a host to host my email email would be just one account, the printer's account....I do not know what to do. Of course when I create a new use account, I get an error because the exchange account is not setup correctly and I dare not turn off exchange on this box. I did turn off sharepoint without issue. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
