Word Opening in background when opened from internet
Hi,
Running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010.
I use an internet based system and whenever I open a Word document it opens as a background application. I can still edit the document, but cannot use any of the ribbon features until I first minimise and then maximise the Word document.
Is there a reason for this? If so, is there a way around it?
Thanks in advance

This only happens when I open the document from the Web based system. If I open a word document from the local computer it opens fine.
Disable internet explorer addons and then check.

Thanks for the suggestions, it is definitely not a Word add in, as I used a registry key to force Word to open in safe mode every time.
I have disabled all IE add ins except the one which is required to create the Word document from the hosted database and the problem remains.
I spoke again with the hosted service provider and they said it is a problem to do with Windows Vista/7 rather than office or IE, and that although Word is launched successfully from the webpage add-in and is brought to the forefront (i.e. sits on top of all other open windows) it is not recognised by the operating system as the active window, and so the toolbars are 'locked'.
I cannot find any documentation at all about this on MS site, EE or other forums - can anyone shed any light on whether this may well be the case, and any subsequent fixes?
Thanks.

Disable protected mode in word. Close word and then try launching the word document.

Hi Ded9, have just tried disabling protected mode, also setting all macro and activex settings in Word to lowest/least secure possible but problem remains.

If everything works fine then problem is caused by addins.
Disable unwanted addin.
