Updating Cached exchange mode

We are on an exchange server here and all the users are using cached exchange mode. it's causing a problem because when new mailboxes are created its taking a long time to show up in the GAL. They will show up in the webmail GAL but not Outlook. If I turn off cached exchange mode, we get the updates immediately.

I dont know if i just want to shut off CEM on all machines... is there just a way to increase the frequency at which it updates? We are mostly on Outlook 2007 here and exchange server 2007

Is there a reason you are using Cached Mode?  Usually I only have that turned on the users with laptops.  Any desktops don't need cached mode as they never leave the office and make use of a PST file.

As far as I know, there is no way to increase the GAL update frequency in Exchange 2007.

Short answer - no.
Cached mode uses the OAB.
The OAB is updated once a day by default on the server. That can be changed.
However what you cannot change is the interval for Outlook to download the OAB. That is when Outlook is restarted or every 24 hours if running constantly.

The other option is to disable the OAB on the client - that leaves the client in cached mode for email. That settings is discussed in this article:

I think it's default checked when setting up outlook so its just been like that on all our machines.

How can I change how often the OAB is updated on the server? That sounds like it would fix the problem and get it updated quicker.

So just to clarify, making that change would accomplish what I'm after, correct? Which is new mailboxes showing up more quickly...
Changing the OAB generation time doesn't help with the speeding up of new users appearing in the GAL. It will still take anything up to 48 hours for it to appear for all users. That is because the time between Outlook downloading the updates cannot be changed.

Simon.
if you update the offline address book , user will get new GAL update.
