Joomla 3.0 placing a logo and resizing logo to fit the web page

I have a logo I need to place at the top of a template in a Joomla 3.0 install. The template has a section where I insert the file and it places and resizes the image the header section to fit the logo. At least I think that is what it does.
See image called MailForgeLogowithVulcan
This image shows the embedded logo Red and Black Anvil and sledgehammer on left. The new combined image has the Greek God Vulcan with a darker black frame around it.
I need to combine the two images into one Will probably use Photoshop but I think I need to know what the natural frame sizes is that I will have to space the two images in ......correct.

My plan is to then place a slogan between the two images. Blending it all into one large long logo. Unless there is some other way to place the image of Vulcan on the right and drop text in between the two. Does anyone have a good simple solution for this issue. Please advise if there are any tools or ways to do this. Thank you.

I think I did not do a good job with my question. I was asking since I have two separate images. can I put both in the header area in individual sections of the Logo Picker See pdf.
or
Do I need to combine them as one and make one long rectangular image that has both.
Then my question is if I have to do the later How do I determine the size I need to create for that rectangular shape I will need to embed the images in. There would be a space in the middle. Do you know how I could figure out that size of rectangle...?

Does that make more sense.

Does this help. Do you know what I could do if I know a little HTML. I was thinking this might be the template access to the code. If I can identify which code works with the header section of the template........not sure how to identify which one.
