Problem with IBM Ultrium tape drive, diagnostic says clean, but tape won't spin

We have a IBM ULTRIUM-HH3 SCSI Sequential Device and it just stopped the other day during a backup. The bottom orange status light keeps blinking. We ran the diagnostic and it says CLEANING REQUIRED.

We have tried several new cleaning tapes and they don't spin at all, they just sit there.

Any ideas?

The tape ejects OK, it just won't spin :( and all we have on the diagnostic is clean! We'll run again and see what happens
Well, two possibilities:
1. You have the wrong kind of cleaning tapes, or they have been used too many times.
2. Your diagnostics suck and you need to get better software.

If this media worked in the past, and you are 100% sure you have correct cleaning tapes and they are good, then that leaves choice #2, does it not?
We ended up scrapping the drive. The diagnostics never said anything other than 'clean' so we gave up. I've just spit the points on this one. thanks
Curious .. what diagnostic software, exactly, did you run?
