Hyper-V Networking Drop Out
Hi,
I have an issue that has happened twice on the last 30 days on a Windows Hyper-V 2008 server where the networking will suddenly drop out. I'll try to explain the setup the best I can, I have 2 physical servers:
MGMT - Server 2008 R2 Domain Controller
HVHOST - Hyper-V 2008 Server Core
and 2 virtual (both on HVHOST)
WS01 - SBS 2008 Server
WS02 - Server 2008
All servers are joined to the domain.
The issue is that suddenly both servers no longer respond to any network requests, ie ping, file shares, exchange etc however the HVHOST is accessible. If I load up Hyper-V manager on MGMT server, it can see the HVHOST and that the 2 virtual servers are running. I can then open the servers from here to confirm that they are running.
The only way I've found to fix this issue is to shutdown both virtual servers and restart the HVHOST server (virtual servers automatically startup on boot).
Has anybody come across this issue? I've not patched the Hyper-V 2008 Core server yet.
The only errors I see in the event log on Hyper-V are SideBySide errors and there are no relatable errors on either virtual server.
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for the response however it isn't a physical cable issue as nothing has changed and works again after a reboot.

Thanks
hoping type of networking is it external ,
I would do two things:
1.logged monitoring of vms and server core.
2.real time monitoring of the Vms.
this will give why the network packets are getting blocked ,
perfmon
and resource monior
are good ones
thanks

I never found a cause for this however it has stopped occurring!
check cables, and check counters on physical switches for errrors.
