Windows 7 - Cannot Map drive?

So I ran across an issue with a user in our environment that is having something strange occur.  When I try to map a network drive or even view a network drive using the "\\network\share" function it will eventually time out and say cannot find the drive.  However when I ping the drive it returns an IP address no problem.  I thought it might be a DNS issue, so flushed DNS, ran arp -d, and then even tried to map the drive using ipaddress.  None of these things resolved it.  I tried a couple other tricks like restarting the windows firewall, uninstalling our corp antivirus (SEP) and removing our VPN client and tried testing, I also uninstalled both NIC and wifi drivers to remove any possible remnants of a virtual layer, and then reinstalled them - no resolution to issue.  Any help at this point would be great, could someone point me in a direction?  Thanks!!

what version of Win7
are you trying windows windows GUI?
have you tried from a command line

net use s:\\123\movies

are you trying as the user ....have you tried as an admin
First off, let us clarify - you cannot ping a shared folder. However, you CAN ping the server. With that said, are you sure you are typing the Share name properly? The share name can be something than the 'displayed' name and could even be hidden, which would require you to add the '$'.

- Verify you have the correct share by logging into that Server, r-clicking the folder in question and select 'Properties'. Once there, select the 'Sharing' Tab to check the Share name. If this is different from what you are using then that is your problem.

- I see in your example ''\\network\share". Just to clarify, it should be "\\Servername(or IP)\ShareName". If you are specifying a the name of a network or domain then you wont be able to connect.

I would start there and please provide us an update.

I CAN ping both server, and shared folder - this is impacting all mapped drives that I attempt to make, not just one specific - not only that, but current network drives that were mapped prior to this issue stopped working, this is what prompted me to start discovering possible issues and post here.

I am Windows 7 SP1 and yes, I have tried net use *

I have tried as myself, and user (I am a domain admin with full permissions in Win7)
If windows updates caused this problem  try uninstalling the updates from when this problem started.
Just incase
To share the entire drive you need to use the Security tab of the drive then add Everyone to the list.

Are both the Security Center and Windows Firewall services running?
And, if they are, did SEP really uninstall properly?
To check; in an elevated command promt, type:
set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
devmgmt.msc
Then, click View-> Show hidden devices and inspect the Non Plug and Play section for Symantec leftovers. Uninstall any that are not grayed out.
@Merete -

It is not an update, because that is controlled by SCCM and we have been having some issues with SCCM as of late, and have not had a roll of updates in a little over a month (this issue started on the 20th of June.

@DavisMcCarn - I will try doing this, will get back to you with and changes, updates.  Thanks!
Ok - both security center and windows firewall services are running after a reboot - I restarted both of them, this is AFTER uninstalling SEP.

I also checked the hidden devices, and there were some.  I removed them all - restarted and still not able to get to network shares......but can still ping them.  :(

I am running out of time with this.  I will probably just have to rebuild the machine.
I had asked that you look for things like SYMTDI or SYMNDIS in the non-plug-and-play driversas Symantec loves to leave them behind.  They won't be grayed out because they are running; but, will block network traffic as SEP is now broken.
Here's a list: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH123170
If it isn't that, this tool has been very successful: http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html
This is on the list - none of what you have posted in here are there.  I uninstalled anything with the word symantec on it.  Did not see anythign with SYMTDI, or SYMNDIS.  Thanks!

Check the screenshot of his plug and play drivers.

I will try the tweaking.com repair tool - will post about it tomorrow.

Ran tweaking repair tool - issue still not resolved.

Going to move forward with rebuilding users laptop - issue has gone on to long, will withdraw question by EOD - unless another useful post occurs.  Thanks!

This was the only direction I could go in - a little disappointed that the community has not seen this type of issue in the past.
