I have two virtual Windows 2008 R2 servers running Exchange Server 2010 SP3 Enterprise edition. They both have all roles (no UC or edge) and are configured in a DAG with a local file server acting as the witness. THeyre both running on VMware ESX 5.1
Ive been tasked with moving the virtual servers off the ESX hosts to the Hyper-V hosts, and traditional conversion methods (like Starwind and MIcrosoft's Virtual Machine Converter) fail to convert the servers successfully. Even if they DID Im not 100% sure Id want to do it that way.
So, I thought I would create 2012 servers with 2010 Exchange SP3 on my Hyper V and simply join them to the DAG, replicate, and remove the old servers. Turns out because theyre different OSes I cant do that.
Which is what leads me to the question above - how do I upgrade my Exchange?
Im THINKING that I create the two new 2012 servers with Exchange 2010 SP3 on them, discontinue the DAG on the old set, MOVE the mail databases to one of the new servers, and create a NEW DAG for the 2012 servers. Then decommision the old servers.
But I dont know, and obviously I dont want to just GUESS without asking...
If youre answering, and you can quickly find a document on that process... well that'd be even better
