Trouble with Fiber

I have a Fiber line that goes in between buildings at my office.  On each end there is a TrendNet Fiber Media Converter.  On each of those converters there is a CAT5 cable going into a switch.  On both sides the lights are on on the switch and all the lights are on on the Media Converter, but I have no signal, apparently.  The reason that I say this is none of the computers are reaching any other machines on campus (not even DHCP server) and my VoIP phones in that building have no signal either.  My question is mainly, how do I test this equipment to see if my problem is the converter vs. something strange happened with the Fiber?

if there are 2 fiber runs, then swap them at one end, i.e if a goes into port 1 and b goes into port 2, the swap b to 1 and a to 2.

what switches do you have installed, and are the ports configured correctly.
You say you have CAT5 cable, what speed are you trying to run the link at?

CAT5 only supports up to 100 Mbps, if you are trying to go faster (1000 Mbps) you will have serious problems.

What is the CAT 5 cable connected to?  What does that device show the port status as?

Do the converters and Fiber match, that is both are either SX or LX and both are either MM or SM?

ASKER

This link with the current equipment has worked for six years now but just recently stopped working. The switches have been the same for 2 years, one being a d link dss 24 and the other being a Cisco catalyst.
i would have to say its a fault convertor.
