asked on

how do you avoid needing to use DOMAIN\ when logging into OWA?

On one SBS 2011 box, the users have to type domain\user to log in to owa

but other sbs 2011 boxes elsewhere don't require that.

is there a way to have them not have to type the domain\ part of username?

You could just have them use their full email address. That would do the trick.

Or you can run these one of these two commands from the Exchange Management Shell:

sounds simple.  4 steps.  I got step 1 ok.

step 2 Go to your OWA properties ?  sorry, I don't see that.
never mind. I do have to do some of the work.... googled it.

under server config, client access, lower panel outlook web app, right click properties of owa
In the console tree, navigate to Server ConfigurationClient Access.
In the result pane, click the server you want.
In the work pane, click the Outlook Web App tab, right-click the virtual directory that you want to view or modify, and then click Properties.

On the Authentication tab, specify authentication methods, sign-in format, and sign-in domain:

Use forms-based authentication -> select "User name only"
