user getting intermitting problems with Mapped drive access

We recently discovered a user having issues with the windows system forgetting that the user has access to the network mapped drives and the problem comes and goes.  we believe the problem is because windows looks to the cac card for authentication.  Is they a way around this?

Based on your scenario I came across users experiencing the same thing on a domain.

We tracked this down to being an issue with the NIC driver.  This can be identified by reviewing the "Administrative Events" in the Event Viewer logs. The source your are looking for is NETLOGON and the details would be something of the sort "no domain controllers available to logon."

To resolve it, we uninstalled the affected driver and allowed Windows to find and load the driver using "Scan for new hardware"

The NIC brand affected was Intel and it was various models.

Let me know if these conditions match yours and I will give more details for resolving it.

We tried this and the windows client wasnt remembering the domain account password so we reset it on the client under accounts.
@Squidsupport - Thanks for the helpful update and I was happy to help.
