SBS 2011 Exchange 2010 EWS Exchange web services : troubleshoot intermittent on mac mail

1 user uses a mac with the mac mail app to get into exchange when in and out of the office. They say that more and more, they get a message that the app can't connect to the server to send mail, and uses their mac.me? email address to send mail.  Then it's not in his sent folder.

At first he said it was at hotels (and not total failure.  It'd be 10 minutes failing, 20 success, etc.) but now it's even in the office once in a while?

Any advice on how to troubleshoot this?

owa - yes

cert - I just cleared things up. it didn't really have a cert before.  I got a UCC.  would a self signed / not set up correct cert fail intermittently?

he uses the mail with the exchange account and other accounts, so he likes it all in 1 screen

yeah, it's working / not working on this one mac.  Is there a way to test connectivity to EWS other than pinging the server IP across the internet?

Yes, I have the trusted cert installed now.  ANd yeah, that testing page is nice. But they don't have one for EWS?
