Word 2013 and external images/text
Is there a way to link text or *especially* images externally and whenever the external images are updated, the updates are instantly reflected in the word document.
Is there a way to accomplish this in Word 2013?
Thank you.

Have you tried the "online pictures" button under the Insert Tab?

Thank you but that will not work.
I need the external images to be located on a local drive.

Your second option is one I had already tried (sorry, I should have indicated so). I had hoped this would work but the problem was , if the source image changed, it did not update in Word.
Perhaps there is some process of updating that I am not aware of?

Okay... This is good enough.
Just found out that if I close the word doc and reopen it, the updated image is present.
Nice!
If there is a way to update without closing, even better. But I am happy.
Thanks

Historically in word, you would press f9 with the image selected to update it. I will try to test this in 2013 when I'm back on a machine running that edition.
Unless there is something new in 2013, then no.
In Word, you can insert an image and link it to the source file. If the file is updated you will have to refresh the link. The F9 key will do that if the image (or its anchor paragraph) is included in the Selection.
Remember that Word is designed to produce printed documents, so is not built to be dynamic.
