after multiple firmware and driver updates for the raid controller and NIC, windows 2008 doesn't boot
hi, I have a 2011 sbs, running on a dell poweredge T710, with which dell recommended we did some firmware and driver updates on the RAID controller and NIC.
problem is, the windows 2008 won't boot now. I've spoken to dell and the suggest that a driver maybe corrupt from the reboot.
I've tried last known good config on boot, but I believe this maybe disabled. as it doesn't resolve the issue.
Bar doing a complete fresh install (headache) is there maybe a way to do a reinstall of 2008, like you used to be able to do on xp.
Or do you have any other solutions.
please note, I'm running chkdsk /r at the moment of typing this.

no it doesn't boot into safe mode
shoot....
only thing i can come up with now is to set your bios to factory default and only adjust your boot options correctly. (maybe even disable your NIC temporarely)

I found on the web about running startrep, it reports the storport.sys being corrupt
Any solution for this
Any solution for this
boot from the o/s install disk or repair disk..
(1) computer will not start fix startup problems
if this doesn't work then from a command prompt sfc /scannow
this should find and fix the storport.sys problem
other copies are in C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_mi crosoft-wi ndows-stor port_31bf3 856ad364e3 5_6.3.9431 .0_none_23 634a33f82b 8573
may be different on your computer but under c:\windows\WinSxS

hi,so just rename the amd64_microsoft-windows-st orport_31b f3856ad364 e35_6.3.94 31.0_none_ 23634a33f8 2b8573 to storport.sys and save onto the d drive ?
I've already run sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=d:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\windows which hasn't worked

I see you mentioned 6.3 version. should that be of any concern or more than likely just reference.
I haven't run sfc or startrep after
next idea

Do the copy as the last resort..Do the first two first.
I am running Windows Server 2012SP2 so it is just a reference. Do do the rename and copy and not just a copy and replace.

Hi again,
Please try booting through F8 enabling boot logging.
There will be a file created in %windir% called NTBtLog.TXT

Last thing i can think of i upgrade your Bios before advising a reinstall (hopefully i say this because of lack of experience)
Have a look at this thread.

You are welcome Lee, i believe it is the wise decision.
everything seemed to be loading until the AVG AntiVirus driver loaded.. Then the bottom dropped out.

hi, we had removed avg av months ago, all that was left on it was avg admin console
If so you might delete the (now) wrong drivers bound to the hardware you have updated (probably the NIC) and copy/install the right one. By removing the drivers in safe-mode normal-mode knows it has to do something with reinitializing drivers.
