Advice on MOBO, CASE, RAM and PSU for new Workstation

Hi this is a followup of my first question regarding the components that i need to choose for my first computer build.

Help configuring a New Basic Workstation for CG 3D Architectural Visualizations

Before i buy the Final Components, i still have a few doubts regarding these 4 components: Motherboard, Ram, Case, and PSU.... I hope someone here can help me sort this out:

MOBO: the Asrock and Gigabyte where very recommended, my doubt is if i should go with ATX instead of mATX... My main reason for going mATX is for size, that is why i liked a suggestion on the Core 1000 Case, but when i realized that i had to put many other components (cooler), etc on a such small case, and the probability of medium overclocking i decided to go for a little bigger Corsair 350D case, which is still mATX.. But what i dont know is if for this kind of configuration, components, and use, a mATX will be the right choice? If you think it will i will keep with the mATx, but i dont know if i will miss something if not choosing a normal ATX...?

RAM: The GSkills where chosen because where the ones recommended to me, is there other brand or model you suggest with low profile (Low profile is what i need right?) I have tried to research this on my own, but i think i do not have the adequate knowledge to choose other brand models... Which Corsair or Kingston would be good choices?

CASE: well, that will depend on what you tell me about the MOBO... But if by any chance you say i should keep with the mATX, do you think all this components will work on the CORE 1000? I can save a little money with that, but more importantly i am very curious if a cheap very nice looking case like the CORE 1000 can handle this kind of Workstation components... Also i read in a review that someone that tried o install the CM Hyper 212 EVO cooler on the CORE 1000 had a rough time doing it, and that the top of it was touching the LID when he closed the Case... Any toughts on the Corsair 200R versus the 350D?

PSU: will it be worth the extra bucks going for the Rosewill Capstone 550-M Gold instead of the Corsair CX 500M Bronze? will it be overkill? I had never heard of the Rosewill brand before... How reliable is it compared to Corsair?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

MOBO, mATX or normal ATX depends on your need for performance. If it is smaller it has to be compensated somewhere else. Full ATX has full blown coolers for maximum performance.

RAM, no need for low profile memory in mATX case, it is commonly used in 1u rackserver chassis so save your money and buy normal size ram.

CASE, depends your requirements.

PSU, i am not familiair with Rosewill. If i have the choice i will always buy a PSU that has been made by Fortron Source (FSPxxx) or DELTA (mainly server usage)
* Fortron is the producer for example all AOpen chassis.

Totally agree Condore here.

After reading your post where you mention CAD and Photoshop i would definatelly go with ATX. Maybe even with a non expected manufacturer like Intel.
They are a little more expensive but what player knows much on how to develope a MOBO for its own CPU's?

I know it is just my opinion as i am a die-hard fan to Intel MOBO's and CPU's.

Hi again, very good info to digest.

The thing that maybe i didnt explained, is that i dont plan on Upgrading much of this computer in the future, since this will be my "backup Basic Workstation / Render Node". At the start of 2014 i plan on building a really PRO powerfull Workstation for $4000 or $5000, and on that want i will think a lot about future upgrades.

So that is the reason why for this PC i want to save a ltitle $ if possible. I also want to use this first computer to try out Overclocking for the First time... Just mild to medium Overclocking...  That is why i decided on going for the 350D case instead of the Core 1000 Case (altough some people tell me that the Core 1000 can handle that with the EVO Cooler...

Also i want the computer to be as SMALL as possible (for space issues), and thats why i wanted to go for mATX, which is also a little chepaer than ATX...

Now you got me thinking, since i dont plan much future expansions on this PC, but i want to do some intermediate Overclocking, do you think the Gigabyte or Asrock mATX Mobos will be able to handle it? I only need the BASICS, as CORAL47 just mentioned, but i dont know if he means that the Basics will be limited to NOT Overclocking?

RAM: the thing is that i am ordering all together and i will not have time to try out the RAM in case it doesnt fit... I rather go the safe straight way. What do i have to look on the RAM to be sure the FAN/Cooler Heatsink will not interfere with it?
