Layer 3 Cisco Gigabit Switch

Hello,

I am looking for an affordable Cisco L3 Gigabit Switch 48 port. I am not sure if we need the layer 3 capability right now, but down the line i would like to segregate the traffic for us our tenants who share office space. What do you guys recommend for the price? I would like a smartnet on it also. Thanks!

"Cisco" and "affordable"... That's a good one. :-)

A 2960 will just barely get you layer-3 functionality.  A 3560 is the lowest end of the true multilayer switches.

Relatively affordable..i know its going to be a few grand..
I haven't looked at prices on Cisco equipment for years (simply because nobody pays retail). The number of discount schedules are mind-boggling.

Unless there's a huge difference, I'd try and get a 3560. That will provide the most flexibility.

Can these still be purchased new and with a smartnet?

avcontrol - that looks promising, but i think i want something with more features.

donjohnston - can you provide me with exact model numbers for the 2960 and the 3560 for the 48 port with L3 capability? Also what are your thoughts on the 3750 series?

Thanks!

Its can be many option and diffrent brands, but all should derived from design.
No doubt. HP is an excellent lower-just-as-good switch. I've got a bunch of 2900 and 5400 series switches that I support.
