Error prompting for Exchange Automatic Reply setting, why?
This is using MS Exchange 2010 server. A user with MS Outlook 2010 professional version feedbacks that whenever she click the "Automatic reply" button, in order to set it, she saw a hourglass, and suddenly the message as shown appears after 5 to 10 minutes:
Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later.
What's went wrong? How to troubleshoot?
Thanks in advance.

It could be a single user, multiple users, but not all users. Even the above feature can be set in OWA doesn't help. This is because all users using outlook for day-in and day-out.
You asked for troubleshooting steps.
I have given them to you.
While using OWA to set the function is not a fix - it is a valid troubleshooting step.
You also need to establish whether it is a multiple users or single users, because that changes whether the problem is a server issue or not. Saying it could be either single or multiple means you either don't know what the problem is, or you are asking a theoretical question, which is a waste of time.

okay,
However first thing to do is see if the problem follows the user to another machine, and also check if it can be set in OWA.
