Cannot connect to Network Computers

I am really baffled. I have a laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate. Until a few days ago I could reliably connect to network computers, whether part of a domain or not, by using the UNC path and providing a username and password.

This no longer works. I also cannot connect using the target computers IP address. I get a reply when pinging the target computer either by UNC path or IP address.

Other Windows 7 computers on the same network have no trouble connecting to any of the computers to which I would like to connect.

I am running Norton Internet Security. I tried turning off all of its protection features, but this did not help. I even totally uninstalled NIS which also did not help. I made certain that the Windows Firewall was also off.

I tried the using both a wired and wireless connection to the network. I have no trouble accessing the Internet or even printing to some printers on the network.

Other computers on the network can connect to my laptop.

While I am not normally joined to a domain, I tried doing so. I got an "AD DC for the domain could not be contacted," even though I can ping the DC.

I can make RDP connections to all the computers I would like to access.

First Norton, places files in your system that it does not remove, most notably networking files,
I would try using the Nortons uninstall tool, not the uninstall from the control panel as this will not remove all files, after you have done this delete the network connections both the wired and wireless, then reinstall them. This should fix your issue. If not, as a last resort you can delete your profile and create a new one. or better yet, just create a new profile, and try to connect.

Theon,

All great suggestions - but they did not help.

I used the Norton removal tool after which there was no evidence of Norton in the registry or in program files. I removed and reinstalled both network connections. Still no access to network computers. I made certain that the Windows Firewall was off too.

I then created a new profile and still no access to network computers.

Last night I tried on a different network at home and had the same problem.

I may try the System File Checker this evening when I have access to the install DVD.

Anyone have any more suggestions?
Makes no since, if you get a ping reply from unc and ip then your are connecting, there seems to be something blocking the ports you are using, plus if you can rdp to the server??? this sould like a firewall on the servers. How are you trying to connect, to a windows file share?
It makes no sense to me either. If it were a problem with the servers, then I would not be able to connect from other computers - but I can connect from other computers.

Could there be something separate from any firewall on my computer that might block some ports?

I am trying to connect to windows file shares by using the UNC path.

I would like to avoid a complete clean reinstall, but it may come to that.

A good solution, but a lot of work. I had no other choice
