Delay in appearance of files in DFS share

We have two file servers in our network. One is an old 2003 R2 box that was our original file server, and the new one is an HP NAS running Storage Server 2008. DFS is running on both and two-way replication has been configured and is working well. I have noticed that sometimes, if we copy a file to the DFS share on the NAS unit, it won't appear there immediately. The file appears on the old 2003 box instantly, but there is a delay of about 5 minutes before it appears and is available on the NAS. The file does not show in windows explorer, and can't be accessed by typing the path in directly. It just "isn't there", but it's already been replicated over to the 2003 machine. I have made sure that the mapped DFS drives are actually pointed to the NAS and not the old machine, and the scanners point to the NAS by IP, bypassing DNS completely. The files in question are never lost, and always show up later, but it's annoying the users who scan something in, then have to wait minutes to be able to access it.
