New exchange install

We have exchange 2007 on an old 2003 box. Installed exchange 2007 on a new 2008 box and had problems with raid so I blew it out and started again. The problem now is that I am getting the following error when trying to install exchange 2007 again on the new 2008 box. The error says; Exchange server is in an inconsistent state. Only server recovery mode is available. How can I correct this? I am assuming that there are reference's in active directory that I might have to delete. Is this correct and if so, what would I need to delete to get this install to work? I did find one in the Active Directory Users and Computers. It is in the section called Microsoft Exchange System Objects. I found two objects there, one referencing the current exchange server and one referencing the new server. Do I delete this one record and were else do I need to look if I need to delete anything else. Thanks

James, I want to get this right. This is what I found. From the Microsoft Exchange Security Groups and from Exchange Server I select properties and then from Attribute Editor I select Member then Edit and then delete the reference to the new exchange server. Then I selected from Microsoft Exchange System Objects, Exchange Install Domain Servers and select Properties. Again in the Attribute Editor and member select the reference to the new server and delete the entry. Now, when highlighting Microsoft Exchange System objects there are two records. Both SystemMailbox and the properties show that each belong to the servers. I am assuming that I need to delete the one that references the new server, correct? Thanks again
Yes, all references in AD to the New Server have got to go.

James, one last quick one and I might be repeating myself and I apologize for that. I just want to make sure. On the first two it was easy enough to remove the reference from the new server. One line and everything else stays the same. The one that say CN=SystemMailbox. I do need to delete that whole record, correct? Not edit and remove the one line that references the new server. There should only be the one that references the current/old server, correct? Thank again

Yes that is correct, but, of course, Simon is also correct in what he says.

Could I rename that record instead of deleting, just in case. If everything goes well then delete it? The record highlighted in blue (check file Attachment) is the one I am talking about. Thanks
