LPT1 Losing mapping

I have a legacy DOS program that prints to the LPT1 port.  We have a program that maps the LPT1 to the attached USB Printer (Lexmark using the Universal Print Driver) using the DOS command 'Net use //printer lpt1 /persistent:Yes'.  It works for the most part but we have ran it the problem of the computer randomly "dropping" the printer.  Once this happens it is not showing up when I enter 'net use' in a dos command window.  Any ideas as to why the printer is losing the mapping?

The computer runs Windows XP SP3.  It runs the DOS programs through the command line.
Could it be possible that the computer randomly "dropping" the printer after they reboot?

Cheers,
Rene
When the error occurs it is usually after they have printed other things.  It seems random, no obvious pattern to when it will occur.  A reboot actually fixes it and then it drops off at some point after the reboot.
Have you looked in your event viewer?

What if it is the works of a program or script?

And what about your scheduled tasks?
And again, msconfig an manage your programs that starts with Windows?
Didn't see anything in log.  Is there a certain event i should be looking for that would indicate the a printer losing its mapping?

No scheduled task and msconfig looks normal.

The program shouldn't be doing anthing except printing the requested report to the "lpt1" port, which is actually a USB printer that has been mapped to the LPT1 port.
Is this program running on other PCs as well?  Do they behave the same?  Can you test this behavior on other PCs?

Could this program actually messes with your mapping? If yes, you may want to contact the support for that program
Yes this program is running on other machines that are not having this problem.  The program is an in house program that i have access to the source code.  There is nothing in the code that should mess with the mapping.
