Windows 8 Won't Login to the Desktop
I have a Windows 8 PC that boots up and appears to be loading the Windows desktop or whatever it's called these days but only stays loaded for a second before switching back and forth to the login screen, continually.
I can start the pc is safe mode and it works fine but as the Startup tab in Task Manager doesn't have any entries I can't do what I've done in the past, ie. untick everything and restart normally.
Has anybody got any tips for troubleshooting this problem?

I've run the AV without success and have also tried Refresh, again without success..

I know that's an option but I was hoping to get it working without having to do a full re-installation. It's not my pc and the owner is not keen on that route unless it's absolutely necessary.
A Refresh is a very aggressive way to fix problems. I did that on my own Windows 8 machine after doing some experimenting. Once the refresh was complete, the machine has worked perfectly.
So in this case where a Refresh won't work, full recovery is really the only option.

Finally sorted things by backing up and reinstalling Windows. A pit of a pain but at least it's working now..
@Alfaro - Thanks for update and I was happy to help. I know reinstalling Windows is a pain but sometimes it is the only way.

The other thing you might try is a Windows 8 Refresh. Read about this first. Although your data and documents are preserved, you will have to reinstall some applications.
Look in Action Center, Recovery and click on the bottom link for info.
