Cancel a schedule windows update?
I disabled a WSUS GPO that told my servers to download updates and notify for install. A few of them had been originally setup with a local windows update setting to automatically install updates. When the GPO was disabled, the local Windows Update settings took effect and several of them installed and rebooted last night. Not good.
Today after searching through Event logs, I see that a few more of these boxes must have had a local update setting to install on Friday night (see below).
Message=Installation Ready: The following updates are downloaded and ready for installation. This computer is currently scheduled to install these updates on ¿Friday, ¿July ¿19, ¿2013 at 3:00 AM:
- Update for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition (KB2836502)
- Security Update for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition (KB2835361)
My question is, how can I cancel this installation? Would disabling services for "Automatic Updates" on Win2k3 boxes and "Windows Update" on Win2K8 boxes accomplish this?

If you restart the windows update service, you should not have the updates being installed.
if you want to be absolutely sure, you can delete the c:\windows\SoftwareDistrib ution directory and restart the service

The only thing I can think of is to disable the windows update service.
