Will a PCI-E 2.0 1x card fit into a PCI 2.0 16x slot?
Newegg sold a combo deal with a Rosewill USB 3.0 case but a crappy USB 2.0 mobo. I didn't catch the mistake. One of our biggest selling points is the fast USB 3.0 speeds.
I'm wondering if I can purchase a PCI-E 2.0 1x slotted card and install it into a 16x slot? The length of the connector is like 1/8 the size and research on Google shows that many folks say it can be done but I'm hesitant.

Yea it's no problem. The pci slot mounting bracket holds it in place.
The only catch is these x1 cards don't pack enough bandwidth for multiple fast USB 3 devices. It's still way faster than USB 2 though. There are a few x4 cards that would be better if somebody needed to max out performance.
Larger PCIe cards will usually work in smaller slots if there is clearance on the motherboard to physically fit the card into the slot position and the slot is open ended. Of course the performance is reduced.

Yes, it will fit with no problem.
As noted, ANY PCIe card will fit in any slot with at least as many lanes as it requires.
x1 card will fit in an x1, x4, x8, or x16 slot
x4 card will fit in an x4, x8, or x16 slot
x8 card will fit in an x8 or x16 slot
x16 card requires an x16 slot
In fact, if the slot is open ended, you can use ANY PCIe card in any size slot ... although the performance will be limited to the number of lanes actually provided by the slot.
