Shared Files not available via VPN when using offline files on Windows 8
Hey team,
We have an SBS 2003 server with shares, and a new Windows 8 laptop with offline files. The offline files are working and the sync works, but when the user connects via VPN all the other folders in the share are unavailable.
The folders all have a grey X.
If we browse to \\server we can see all the shares when on VPN.
If we try and open the files via \\server\share\folder then we get an error:
\\Server\Share\Folder is not accessible, You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The file is currently not available for use on this computer.
If we try and open the files via the mapped drive then we get this error:
S:\Folder is not accessible.
The file is currently not available for use on this computer.
Thanks.

I've had this problem with Windows 7 machines in the past because when the client connected via VPN, there was no DNS-suffix information included when the client received it's "VPN Network" address information and the client had problems resolving the hostname properly.
Are you able to go to \\server.fqdn.internal\sha
