symantec backup exec 2012 vmware unable to quiesce an application while snapshot of virtual server backup

I recently added to two hard drives to two virtual machines.

These severs are giving an error when I try to backup them up.

The Symantec backup exec 2012 server has this message:

Final error: 0xe000959a - An attempt to take a snapshot of a virtual machine failed because it was unable to quiesce an application.

The vsphere Client has this message :
Create virtual machine snapshot
An error occurred while quiescing the virtual machine. See the virtual machine's event log for details.

All other virtual machines are backing up without an issue.

If you manually take a snapshot of the VM, does it fail, if you tick the quiesce option.

check the status of the virtual disks added, are not Independant.

“independent/persistent” mode can't be snapshotted.

From VMware I was able to snapshot with the quiesce opton selected.
These are not in independent/persistent mode.
I am going to try to uninstall and reinstall vmtools in interactive mode and remove sync option.

I can only do this after 4 pm.
if you remove the sync option, you will only have crash consistent backups.

it's odd, that the function which symantec uses is the snapshot with the quiesce opton selected.

Is your server under heavy loading, when the backup is being run?

what storage is used for the datastore?
Backup tried in the middle of the night.
I did it over and over at different times and still got the same error.

netapp is our datastore.

This worked 1000 times before adding drives. Still working on 10 other virtual servers.
the drives you have added, have not exceeded the maximum virtual disk size for the datastore?

including the snapshot?
They are not very large at this time.
The snap shots from VMware worked fine.
