Files for Practicing SQL with SQL Server 2008 R2

I am looking for steps for installing Sql Server 2008 r2. My main use will be for practicing sql. My customer does not use Sql Server 2012.

I have looked at videos on youtube, but the installation for SQL Server 2008 r2 has drastically changed from the videos.

I have looked at microsoft, but the pages I have found don't say what the main files are.

Do you mean partitioning the hard drive? Is that needed?

Sorry about removing my bad comment. I was reading Practicing Partitioning by mistake.

Now that I am at it, as you know, a table in a sql server could have records in millions. This makes the maintenance or search in the table very very cumbersome. So, the idea here is to create .ndf files where you store the data for the entire 2007, 2008, 2009 in their separate files like data2007.ndf, data2008.ndf, data2008.ndf.

So, what is partitioned is the a large table.

Alex,

Kindly post your question in a more detailed way. Are you looking for installing SQL Server 2008 R2 for practicing or you are planning to test partitioning in it?

geek_vj,

Please ignore partitioning. It was my fault to write about it. He want to install for practice.
