"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,
SharePoint 2010 stand-alone installation installs SQL Server 2008R2 Express Edition:

Therefore to manage/maintain simply download and install SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Just a comment: SharePoint database structure is highly complex and not very well documented, so you should try to use the "official" programming features to query SharePoint content - like Server side object model or Powershell.
