HP DL360 G8 - best practice for installation of Windows 2008 R2

Hi.

We need to install a brand new HP DL360 G8 server.
Does the best way is still using HP's SmartStart CD OR installing a clean Windows 2008 R2 OS and download the HP drivers and utilities?

One more thing, is there a tool which downloads all the required/missing/outdated drivers for HP servers?

Thanks in advance

If you got the SmartStart CD with your server, then yes, that is the way to install your OS. If you didn't get such a CD, then there is something similar which HP introduced, but it loads directly from it's firmware, use that then. I don't know which servers include the new option and which don't.

SmartStart is replaced by Intelligent Provisioning, which is now the preferred method of installing the server.

Intelligent Provisioning replaces SmartStart CDs for ProLiant Gen8 servers. This means the software that came on CDs (SmartStart) in previous generation ProLiant servers is now embedded on a flash chip on ProLiant Gen8 servers and Gen8 server blades. The pre-loaded flash chip is bootable when a user presses the F10 key during server boot (Power on Self Test, known as POST). The server will then boot to the pre-loaded flash chip and show the Intelligent Provisioning software. Intelligent Provisioning includes all the configuration utilities you were accustomed to previously with SmartStart, plus many new ones.

Hello,

HP releases SPP (http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/psp/index.html?jumpid=servers/psp), so you can use the latest to upgrade BIOS, firmware and drivers at the same time.
