Printer install using workgroup manager

Using 10.8.4 server and 10.8.4 clients
The network printer is not shared on the server
The server is not a print server

I am trying to add printers to Macs using workgroup manager (WGM), on the server I add the printer by IP address, choosing the protocol 'Line Print Daemon' (have tried 'Jet direct protocol' too), the server finds it, and identifies as the correct HP3005 printer and can print to it, BUT once I add this printer to WGM and log into a Mac all that will print is a document that says:

"pdf file not printed. 128MB of memory is required to enable direct pdf printing"

I am testing with a tiny text document (and tried other docs too)

any ideas?

There are issues with printers not having the same driver installed on both the client and the server with some printers shared through WGM. Try installing the printer on the server and use Generic Postscript Printer for a driver. You may lose some printer functionality, but should get rid of the error.
Otherwise you may be able to install the correct driver on the client side and that may solve the issue but that sort of defeats the purpose of pushing it out through WGM and not having to touch each client.
