Window Animation

I am running a Windows 7 computer.  I seem to remember that when I originally set up the computer I elected NOT to  have the windows open gradually ... like an animated window opening.  For years things have worked fine (with the windows just popping open the way I prefer it).  All of a sudden the "roll open" window appearance has started appearing (which I find terribly annoying), and I can't find how to fix it.  Please help.
