Alt text for image in gmail signature?

I'm setting up my email signature in gmail. The signature consists mostly of an image. The problem is that some people don't display images. Is there a way to give gmail an alt text to show for those situations?

One more thing: I also want the image to be a link. When I surround it in a href tags, it doesn't show up when I load the web page.

Any ideas? here's my html:

<a href="www.goinspire.com><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wNpBifrtKBk/UhzMV2w9TbI/AAAAAAAAAPk/WAsr5lKO5lo/w416-h127-no/Esti+Leiser.jpg" title="Desired Title" alt="Esti Leiser<br>Office Manager<br>845-425-8255 x201 / www.goinspire.com"></a>

Joke's on me - I was missing a quote!

Thanks for your help! I googled for a while, but didn't find that link you gave me. TY!
