Need to send appointment reminder automatically via Exchange.

We're running Exchange 2010 in our legal aid office.  We need to have a reminder email sent to the client the day prior to their appointment with a lawyer.  Is there a way to have Exchange do this automatically (like a reminder) when the appointment is created, and to have it sent from an unattended mailbox?

Here is an article that is similar to your needs.

The code creates and sends an email addressed to all meeting attendees, or optionally to just the required attendees, reminding them of the meeting.

I'm actually not adverse to a third party product. I'm not feeling adding code that might or might not run as needed, and that requires a user to actually have their Outlook open.

I would have rather went with a third party complete solution, but if this turns out to be the method that works, then so-be-it.
