Windows 7 Workstation

Icons on this workstation move around after a remote session no matter what I do..  We have spent hours trying to figure out if it was gotomypc or rdp or the monitor or the workstation. This user has had it and has asked us to give him a new computer.  He has 150 shortcuts on his desktop.  Everything else is standard.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you right-click on the desktop, under the View menu, is "Auto-arrange icons" checked?

Your remote session is using a different depth than your desktop (for instance, your desktop may use 1280x720 and the remote session uses 800x600).  In that instance the desktop will reconfigure the icons on the desktop to fit the remote session.
>>  He has 150 shortcuts   <<  that seems a bit too much
teach him not to use shortcuts for everything
Yes I can understand your user would be stressed by that. Some of our users like Stardock's Fences application which does a great job of grouping the icons in logical order, and retains all their locations after his RDP session is finished. He might appreciate the additional level of control and organization

We would prefer a solution that doesn't involve a third part program but so be it. We have tried all of the other soultions.
