Default printer setting disappearing

We use roaming profiles and printers that get mapped to users.
For some reason, for many users, the default printer setting disappears every time they log on to their Win7 machines. The printers are mapped and listed, but none are selected as default. Even after I set a default printer for them, when they log off and back on, the default disappears.

What could be causing this?

f you leave the group policy setting “Do not set default client printer to be default printer in a session” as not Not Configured, in both Local Group Policy and domain Group Policy level, the server will automatically set the default printer on the client to be the default one in the remote session.

If you want to change this behavior, please change the policy setting to be Enable. In that situation, the default printer will be the local printer configured on the server side.

Is this configuration using TS or RDS?

Have you checked to ensure that there is no GPO being in operation regarding this?

Yes, I've confirmed there are no GPO applied that would affect this issue.

How are the printers mapped? start commands or vb scripts?
