Upgrading Symantec Anti Virus - is there a better way

Hi

We have Symantec End Point anti virus  version 11 running at our college.

Now that version Symantec End Point 12 is released they are saying we need to upgrade. However to upgrade we have to get an IT person to reinstall the software on every client computer as well as the server.  We have approx 50 client computers and they will charge us another $1200 on top of the software to do this.

My questions:
How important is it to upgrade to version 12 (our version 11 is still getting updated virus definitions)?
Once we upgrade to 12 will we have to do this again every year (ie reinstall on all the clients) every time a new version is released?
Is there a more economical solution?

Thanks for your help

First, version 12 has been out for a few years. It's new new. If you on a college network and they are still running version 11, they are way behind. The major reason to upgrade is to get the newer scan engine. I use SEP version 12.1.2015 on our network of five servers and 45 Pc's in a domain. Every system is running 12.5.2015 and they are managed by our SEPM server.

We have been running SEP for 7 years with no problems.

Hi

Does the new scan engine give better virus protection or does it just make the virus scanner run more efficiently or both?

Still would like a response to:

I upgraded to 12 two years go and the updates they have sent have taken up to 12.1.2015 with no additional installs.

They send out program updates with the Live update process that you can auto schedule right in the Symantec Manager and have the updates sent to all workstations in the network.

If your organization is a college, then you should qualify for a high educational discount. There are always cheaper products, but I use Sep because they provide 23.7.365 support. I've standardized my entire client base on it. Using it so much, I've become well trained on the product and know how to manage it quite well.
