End User Experience Monitoring

I want to start measuring end user experience in our IT environment, but I do not have direct access to the datacenters & core business application. Most tools available to measure end user experience, requires that monitoring tools are closely integrated in the application architecture.

I am looking for an desktop agent that can measure "experience" from the users' desktop by recording normal day-to-day application response, establishing a baseline for acceptable performance. Once these response times deviate, this can be measured against the baseline.

In essence, I want a way to measure End User Experience - even if it is indirectly - from the users' desktop, without requiring "monitoring hooks" into the core application architecture.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Have you looked at HP's Business Availability Center (BAC)?
This is what we use at our location.  I'm an app admin.   There are no hooks that I'm aware from this tool to my app...just scripts that run against my boxes and report results

Emails are generated whenever a script exceeds one level with a warning and another when it "red lines"...you can decide who gets the emails.

Depends also on passive or active monitoring which I believe you are seeking the passive for real-user experience instead of synthetic type. e.g. Solutions for passive end-user experience measurement monitor actual transactions and reporting application response times from a server, network, or application perspective. Solutions for synthetic monitoring are more effective in addressing the top goal for application performance management: prevent performance issues before end-users are impacted.
