Migration from AD 2003 and Exchange 2003 to AD 2012 and Exchange 2013

I have an existing 2003 AD domain with Exchange 2003 (2 domain controllers and 1 exchange server).  I have new physical servers to upgrade/migrate to.  The new servers are Windows 2012 and Windows 2012 with Exchange 2013.  Is there a direct migration path I can follow?  Do I need to use an intermediary 2008 Server?  I ask because it appears that Exchange 2003 is not compatible with AD 2012, and Exchange 2013 is not compatible with AD 2003.

After some more searching it looks like the best plan is to use an intermediary server for exchange. Start with AD 2003 and Exchange 2003.  Migrate Exchange to 2010.  Migrate domain to 2012. Then migrate Exchange from 2010 to 2013. Does this makes sense?  Is there a better way to do it?

You can't transition from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2013. You need to go first to Exchange 2007/2010 and then to Exchange 2013
Read more about this on Upgrading to Exchange Server 2013.
Watch also Transitioning to Exchange Server 2013: Should you make the hop from 2003 or 2010.
AD part can be upgraded separately.

just to add, ensure your domain/forest functional level is 2003 native before moving (interim) to exchange 2010; won't work if it's mixed

doing exchange first is important because if you migrate your domain controller and raise the functional level (to 2008 or 2012), exchange 2003 will break.  exchange 2010 will work with a domain functional level of 2003 native or higher

As You can not migrate from exchange 2003 to Exchnage 2013 directly and Windows 2012 Active Directory do not support Exchange 2003, you have to complete your task in below sequence:

1- Migrate Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 ( with 2003 AD)
Prerequiste: Forest functional level should be windows 2003.
Exchange 2003 to 2010 Transition.

2- Migrate Active Directory from 2003 to 2012
Upgrading an Active Directory Domain from Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2003 R2 to Windows Server 2012

3- Migrate Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.
